I love to cook! Absolutely find true joy in preparing foods for my family. However, the problem is that time doesn’t allows allow for me to indulge in taking the time needed to prepare perfect meals that I often daydream about. Add in the time for grocery shopping, brainstorming for new ideas it can be challenging at times… to say the least. I only very recently heard of Blue Apron which is a meal delivery service with a real edge.
After experiencing their unique offerings, not only am I ecstatic about the food, but I feel like it really brings something else to the table. I was able to prepare delicious and refreshing meals that were not only fresh and healthy but helped me learn how to cook with some new vegetables and herbs that I had never used before. It was more of an experience that we could all enjoy. I had the chance to play in the kitchen and we all benefitted from the tasty aftermath.
So, here is how it works. Blue Apron is a meal delivery service that you can subscribe to and of course cancel at any time (not that you would ever want to). You can choose how many people you are ordering for. You will get 3 inspired meals delivered to you each week. The cost is approximately $9.99 per person, per meal and the shipping is free. You can choose from a vegetarian plan (which I tried) or a plan that includes poultry, meat or fish. You will recieve your shipment on the same day of every week, so you’ll know when to expect your food. Unpack and when it comes to meal preperation, you simply just grab the recipe card that is included and your fresh ingredients from your refigerator. Beautiful business!
Before unloading my scrumptious box, I took a photo so that you could get an idea of what you expect. These ingredients were for the Vegetarian plan for two to make Aromatic Basmati Rice Pilaf with Baby Pattypan Squash (final meal pictured above), Egglplant Rollatini with Lemony Ricotta & Garlic Bread and last but not least Tofu Ravioli with Glazed Baby Bok Choy Leaves.
Learning To Cook Meals with Unique Ingredients
As I mentioned earlier, Blue Apron was really more of an experience to me. After cooking their meals, I was feeling like a real foodie. Not just someone who enjoys eating good food, but being able to prepare it… with a little help of course. Perhaps one of the most fun ingredients in our box was the Baby Pattypan Squash. Not only had we never tasted it, but I had never seen or heard of it before. They are the cutest looking little squash that are yellow in color (see below).
Among other ingredients that I’d never used before were Lemon Basil, Nigella Seeds and Lemon Grass. This was also my first time putting together ravioli by hand, which was really fun! Each of the meals we prepared were equally delicious and unique in general and from each other. One night we were transported to Italy, then the Himalayas and Asia. We really enjoyed the culinary journey. Another notable were the recipe cards that they send which offer visual instructions as well as a little information about the dish. You can even save them to prepare later if you choose and let me tell you these recipes are keepers!
I am really in awe of Blue Apron and have so many good things to say about it! Want to give them a try? You can subscribe at BlueApron.com. I believe you will thank me! 😉
