Have you tried making breads in your slow cooker yet? It’s awesome and so easy! There are probably a zillion ways you could do it. But, I opt for the easiest way and that is by using Bisquick as my base. For a while now, I’d been making a basic dinner bread using Italian seasonings with it and it’s awesome to have a quick back up plan. Especially when we’re, ya know.. out of bread and all. I also experimented and made a pancake bake too, it was really good. So, this week I decided to try something a little more tasty and do an Apple Bread. It’s definitely a keeper! It’s the best “bread” that I’ve made in the slow cooker so far. Nice and moist and perfectly sweetened.
This recipe couldn’t get much easier aside from just buying some pre-made bread at the store. There are only 4 easy ingredients, some that you might already have at home. Bisquick, milk, an egg and some apple pie filling. You can always swap for a different pie filling to experiment, I am sure it would come out yummy and interesting. I’m thinking blueberry might be my next experiment. Yum.
You might be catching on that I only “do” easy when it comes to cooking and this fits right in. It bakes up in just a little over an hour, it’s really cool. Just make sure you coat with non-stick spray before attempting any baking in your slow cooker or things will not work out. Yep, made that mistake a couple of times. Lesson learned! This is a must to remember! Once the bread is done cooking, you should be able to gently remove the whole “loaf” onto a plate. I usually cut around the edges before attempting to remove the bread. You could also opt to cut it and serve right from the slow cooker. Still tastes yummy either way.
Want to bake up something yummy and quick?
- 1.5 Cups of Bisquick
- 1/2 Cup of Milk (Skim works)
- 1 Cup of Apple Pie Filling
- 1 Egg
- ** I use a 6 quart slow cooker for this recipe. Using a different size may affect your results.
- In a bowl mix the bisquick, milk and egg. Once blended completely, spoon in your apple pie filling and gently combine. Spray your slow cooker generously with non-stick spray. Then, add your mixture to the bottom. Carefully spread flat if necessary. Cook on high for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Be sure to check around the 1 hour mark, you will know if it's ready when you insert a fork into the center and it comes out "clean". Cool and enjoy!
