Nothing says summer like a delicious ice cream sundae, no? There is something simply magical in the frosty stuff. I recently made these easy waffle cups to serve up for breakfast, which worked out brilliantly. As I was writing up that post, I had a little brainstorm. These waffle cups needed to be tried with ice cream in them and so I made it happen right away. Can you blame me? The waffle cups are ridiculously easy to make and you can really use them for so many different things, they make great holders for the sweet goodness of ice cream and definitely breakfast fillings. I am going to have to come up with even more ways to use these because they are so fun!
I filled my waffle cups with what I consider traditional sundae components… vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, colored sprinkles, whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. The cups are pretty small, so it’s also great for portion control when you need something good. Of course you can always try out wheat or other varieties of waffles, they should work out nicely too. Perhaps filling with fruit and yogurt will be my next experiment or heck maybe even strawberry “shortcake”. So many ideas, so little time!
I will definitely be serving these up when we have company this summer and next week hopefully. We’re trying to get my SIL, BIL and the kids to come visit us, wish us luck!
- Frozen Waffles (I used store brand)
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Your choice of ice cream and toppings. I used vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, colored sprinkles and topped with a cherry.
- Preheat your oven to 375. Defrost desired amount of frozen waffles or microwave, do not toast or they will not be pliable. Spray your muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray. Press each waffle delicately into your muffin tin. Cook for 12-14 minutes until crisped. Cool and remove. Add your favorite sundae ingredients you'd like to your waffle cups.
